Airplane Flying Field Trips
My name is Chris Evans. I'm a Christian homeschooling dad of 3. I'm an airline pilot by trade (based at Midway airport), but on the side I've been "checked out" to rent a small, 4 seat single engine airplane out of the Griffith Airport on Main Street.
I was wondering if there would be any interest in the homeschooling community among the kids, teenagers or grownups to go for a short flying field trip once in a while (to maintain currency, I need to fly a minimum of once every 3 months if I want to keep doing it).
The cost would be manageable, I think, if it was divided among those who participate. The plane is $92 an hour (engine running) to rent, and I could probably pay a third of that if it wasn't too often. Also, we wouldn't even have to fly for a whole hour. A 45 minute trip would cost $69, so if I paid a third of that it would work out to average just over $15 dollars for each of the other three seats to share expenses (maybe the front seat would pay a little more and the back seats a little less?).
Since I do keep my Flight Instructor certificate current, the person in the front seat would get to fly the airplane if they wanted to.
